{Why Staircases Are Essential Design Elements
Stairway designs play a crucial role in joining different levels of a space, offering both functionality and aesthetic charm. From contemporary styles to grand options, stairs come in a selection of options to fit any space. Whether you’re looking for a space-saving solution or a grand statement piece, there’s a staircase design to meet any requirement.
{The Practicality of U-Shaped Stairs
The layout of U-shaped staircases involves two flights of stairs with a landing that reverses direction. This design is commonly seen in expansive homes or structures with ample vertical dimensions. The U-shape combines a impressive look with a footprint that makes the most of available space. The landing is a practical feature that can also elevate the stairway design’s aesthetic appeal. These stairs are linked with luxury and are favoured in high-end homes.
{Curved Stairs: Ideal for Luxurious Interiors
Curved staircases are defined by their sophisticated, arching lines that radiate sophistication. Curved stairs are easier to use than Spiral ones, as their open arc provides a more comfortable climb. This design is often used in grand homes, historic sites, or high-end hotels to make a dramatic statement. Creating Curved stairs requires a significant amount of skill and is often more high-end than other styles. The result is a breathtaking design feature that enhances the design of a space.
{The Sleek Design of Floating Stairway Designs
A Floating stairway design is defined by its clean design, creating the illusion of stairs suspended in air. These stairs are designed with invisible supports or concealed attachments, giving them a sleek, floating look. This design is often used in sleek interiors to create a sense of minimalism. The clean look of Floating staircases ensures that other design elements, such as artwork, can take centre stage. Floating staircases are eye-catching but require careful engineering to ensure they are safe and reliable.
{Spiral Stairway Designs: A Space-Saving Marvel
Spiral stairway designs are recognised for their compact, helical design with a helical column. These stairway designs are perfect for small spots, like lofts, where conventional designs won’t work. This design is often built from materials like glass, offering creative design opportunities. Spiral stairway designs are space-efficient but can be difficult to use for those with physical limitations or heavy items. Despite their drawbacks, Spiral stairs are loved for their artistic and unique design.
{Bifurcated Staircases: A Symbol of Opulence
Bifurcated stairs are a opulent and harmonious design often seen in mansions or luxury venues. Bifurcated stairway designs are celebrated for their primary flight that divides into two at a platform, typically turning in opposite directions. This design is recognised for its striking and impressive presence, often chosen for formal settings. The balanced design ensures a balanced appearance, often accentuated by decorative banisters or chandeliers. Despite needing more space and a larger cost, Bifurcated stairs are a classic marker of sophistication.
{Stairway Designs: A Great Fusion of Form and Purpose
Staircases are a clear reminder of how construction can combine utility with aesthetic expression. From efficient Spiral designs to luxurious Bifurcated styles, stairs offer countless possibilities to enhance any space. No matter the trends, stairs will remain a central element in the functionality of any space.
Thousands of homes could have 'unsafe staircases'
Thousands of council homes could have potentially dangerous staircases which need to be replaced.
Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.
The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
